Lunch at Bakerzin

Being the foodie that I am, I love the chinese-malay-peranakan flavors and fragrance of local food in Singapore. This liking, alas, is not shared by my hubby. Neither do I share the pleasure he finds in frequenting steak joints and Korean BBQ as I do not eat red meat. So on our eating out trips together, we generally frequent places that serve western food, Japanese, Italian or Thai. We spend a good amount of time checking out menus and places before we settle down and pick a place.

Today, we decided upon Bakerzin at the UE square mall since it was a Sunday and most other places including the wine places like the Wine Connection, looked deserted. We ordered from the fixed lunch special that comes with a soup of the day, a main course and a drink. We also get to pick unlimited bread from the bread bar. The bread was good, although, there could have been more variety given that this is a bakery that specializes in deserts and breads. The bread came with olive oil and balsamic vinegar for dipping. We were hungry and ate enormous amounts of it.
Next came the soup pf the day - Spicy Bloody Mary Soup (tomato soup with a zing) . Sadly, the zing was too little with a bit much of sweet flavor for our taste. The main course we chose was Teriyaki chicken with Japanese rice and a roast tomato. The tomato was delicious and baked just right, not too soft and mushy and not too hard, sprinkled with a bit of pepper. The teriyaki chicken came with skin on and was fine. The Japanese rice was pearly and white and had a great texture. The drink I chose was the blood orange Italian soda, which was not too sweet and had a nice citrus flavor and the color of blood orange.

After all the bread and food, there was no room to try dessert.

Bakerzin also hold kids workshops for baking fun - there was a workshop on at the time we lunched and the children seemed to enjoy using the hand mixers to make the batter.

The food at Bakerzin was fine. Another visit, not sure, maybe to try their desserts and coffee the next time.
